The short film by frontline: Growing up Online does a very good job of relaying all of the facts concerning this new technological age that we live in. I knew that most parents are worried about what their children do online…but I had no idea that there were so many misconceptions about teenage internet usage. For most teenagers, including myself, the internet is a forum of self-expression and a means to connect with people. Parents are too quick to assume that when their children are on Facebook talking to elderly predators that are eager to kidnap them. Although this happens, I believe this documentary did a great job in showing that simple issues like these can be resolved by setting limits and forcing your children to maintain conversations with you,

To most teenagers, the internet is a continuation of reality. Not all teenagers want it this way…but it is so hard to stay in ‘the loop’ if you are not connected to social networking sites and the internet in general. Just as school is a social hub in the daytime, the internet serves as a social hub all of the time. I believe that us as teenagers should not be so concerned with instant gratification…but that’s just how it is. Discretion has taken a backseat and because of this, it is up to the adults of this generation to garner a stronger helm on what goes with their teenagers and the internet. In the end, I believe this documentary did a great job in exposing some of the negatives associated with the internet. However, I believe they missed a great deal of pros that might have resulted in a much more balanced unbiased documentary.

Linear vs. Binary Algorithms Post

Binary would be best when looking for a book and it is better to use linear when you are trying to sort/search by someone’s name (maybe an attendance sheet).

Growing Up Online

I have literally been raised around technology and the internet. My parents also supplemented my nurturing with technology and the internet. They always stressed the fact that computers/the internet were important tools that should never be wasted. Although the internet is an important tool, my parents also made sure that I was aware about all the harm that could come with being raised by the help of the internet. As a child I was hooked on nickelodeon, cartoon-network, and Disney sites…my parents had no need to worry. As a pre-teenager, I was addicted to Tagged.com. Everyday after school…I had to visit tagged. Who posted on my page, what tags I received, and to see what my crush was up to. Now as a teenager I am always online. The reasons for my being online center around facebook, gmail, and online shopping.

My parents felt like they had no need to worry about my internet usage because they knew that they raised me correctly and that I knew how to take care of myself. Growing up, I noticed that my friends’ parents were must more strict on the internet usage because they felt like they should only consider the cons associated with the internet. My parents on the other hand, had careers that centered around the use of the internet- so it became less of an unknown demon and more of a beloved tool.

East Coast College Tour 09′

Between the 9th-15th i went on a college tour with a CPS Gifted Group. Not only did we visit almost every college on the East…we were best impressed by the majority of IVY Leagues that we saw. We were greeted by every admission officer, but we were treated to an specialized info section and a unique college tour. The Colleigate Scholars really know how to hook it up . Some of the schools we salavated over were Yale, Colombia, Harvard, MIT, NYU, Boston U, Brown, and so much more. The top schools to me were MIT, Yale, and Brown!! If my test scores go well, it’ll be MIT or nothing. Along with an elaborate college adventure, we were treated to a host of city luxuries. Including Whale Watching, a NYC Double Decker Bus Tour, and a multitude of eateries. Besides some of annoying people on the tour it was one of the greatest times of my life. Ranked cities: NYC, Cambridge, Boston, and anything relating to MIT! I will be back soon with my debrief of my 2nd XC Camping Trip 2 Wisconsin. (not proof read)

Comic Con 09′ Lack-Luster at Best…

Olivia Munn, Video, Games, and Movies….a man’s best friend. For the first time ever G4TV broadcasted the annual Star Wars Press Conference. Like ever geek out there I was looking forward to a new visual experience other than the blog-reading of yore. I was looking forward to grand announcements, huge spectacles, and all i got was an announcement about some Star Wars concert and a Star Wars Clone Wars 30 second clip. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Clone Wars…but when it’s the only worth while announcement of the whole press conference there is a problem. Besides the Star Wars press conference, there were several miniscule announcements. Most of these announcements originated from movie hype. There were several horror movies announced…one including your friend and mine…Olivia Munn . Besides the movies, there were minor game announcements including a DC Universe Online video game and many a video game delays.

In the end this was the worst Comic Con ever..just sad…

The summer song embodies the year that is to come, the ‘summer song’ gets played all the time but never gets old, and the summer song is known by son, father, and grandmother. Summer Review 09′ Part 2

Welcome to the second edition of the summer movie review. This is where you get a real perspective of the summer’s blockbusters…before they actually become blockbusters. To save you the most $$$ possible the rating scale will be: See it, Bootleg it, or Skip it.

Action

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is racist, too long, and not very funny. The two ‘black robots’ were worst than people wearing black face, the Jim Crow Laws, and Jesse Jackson…and that’s pretty bad. The plot makes no damn sense. The only thing that saves this film is Megan Fox and the abundance of glorious action scenes. If you like seeing beautiful women and giant robots fighting each other go see this movie! But for God sakes…don’t pay for it!

Bootleg

Before seeing this I was so sick of seeing Johnny Deep in these dark movies (i.e. Edward Scissor Hands, Sweeny Todd, and the new Alice in Wonderland). Don’t get me wrong…those are great movies, but I just wanted Mr. Deep to try something different. This movie is a drop dead mother fuc!king masterpiece. It seamlessly blends action, story, and love in a way seldom seen on the big screen!

SEE IT!!

“Comedy”

I am a real big fan of the Ice Age franchise…I’m sorry to say that this film really disappoints. Most of the jokes fall flat and miss that intelligent vigor and wit that they once had in some of the older movies. The story just seems like scraps from the movie before it…it really pissed me off that the director thought he could convince people to see such a last minute lacking disaster!!

SKIP IT!!

Next time look forward to: Harry Potter (That movie better not disappoint) and that new Twilight (what a terrible waste of my time).

The Scientific Reason Why Games Cost so Much!

Why are video game systems such as the Xbox 360 so cheap compared to its video games? Same as the printer and its ink cartridge and the razor and its razor blades; in juxtaposition, video games act as complimentary goods to their video game systems. Complimentary goods occur when the demand for one good entices or correlates to the demand of another good. Companies similar to Microsoft are known to distribute or supply demos for little or no cost to generate a continual market for Microsoft’s video games. An Xbox 360 game system is not useful unless the consumer purchases an additional three to four video games…which eventually will exceed the cost of the system itself!

When Xbox 360s become cheaper, people will buy more of them, and, consequently, demand for video games will increase. Subsequently, when perspective top selling video games first hit the market, Microsoft most often markets and advertises their new video games but not their game consoles. The shift in concern from the game console to the video game is because most companies make their millions on their video games and not their $250 game systems. Companies like Microsoft know that their consoles are going to sell…but their consumption depends entirely on their advertised video games.

In the end, Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo have no desired proclivity to market or publicize their game consoles, because consumers are more interested in their video games and when video games sell, so do game consoles.

The new in modern street-wear watches is upon us: The new July 09’ Casio G-Shocks. It’s nice to see some more colorful releases as these have traditionally been restricted to collaboration models. You’ll get a respectable G-Shock w/o the pricey collaboration models. (i.e. LRG and etc). And just being $90 to $100…being stylish and affordable just go hand in hand!

If you don’t know what the above shoes are either you have bad taste in movies or you are a terrible human being. The shoes pictures are the ‘exact’ shoes worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II! Besides the fact that these shoes don’t tie themselves, when these bad boys come out they are a must get! With a satin-upper and liberal shots of pink that dominate the liner and full-length Air unit. The insole maintains a similar Back to the Future II inspired color scheme as well. The release date is coming soon…and as for the price….you might want to wait until you get a job..
